Unleashed Thunderstorms

Even if it’s raw, like unleashed thunderstorms;
hope is the light that will chase away the darkness holding Nigeria captive.

“What if I could change the world?”
A dream that sprouted within every one of us.
An imagination battered by reality, forced to shrink.
And now we are left to wonder “Can I even change MY world?”

As a kid, everything seemed innocent, bold, and easy
Growing up, the world grew fangs and claws born of monstrosity.

But whenever we hide under our blankets from the lingering cold in the night, there are those who embrace it.
And whenever we picture demons lurking in the shadows, there are those who notice the light within it.

So listen to the words, not the voice.
Capture the emotions, not the face.
“Our leaders failed us” we always say.

But have we forgotten that We dared to nurture a dream we couldn’t see through to the end?
We dared to sin but judge others of their sins that brought us discomfort.
And we dared to accept defeat, but the night is still young Nigerians.

So flip the pages of history, where every letter is written in blood.
Put yourself in those iron chains and picture the lives of our heroes who paved the way for our future
They dared to fight for freedom where justice was served cold in bloody platters
Abandoned on the ground while their enemies climbed ladders

But man have witnessed huts transform into bungalows,
And small rivers become the ocean.
You see, history never changed; it got rebranded
And darkness only exists for light to shine brighter.

My dear Nigerians
We don’t fight injustice with our fists
We ensure freedom with a mind that defeats.
So never let the light of hope extinguish in your hearts
Like unleashed thunderstorms;
Even, if it’s raw
